8/20/09 - B.J. Jansen Pays Tribute to Les Paul on the Jazz Life

B.J. Jansen pays tribute to Jazz Guitar Legend Les Paul with an interview he did less than a year ago with Les.

Jansen Remembers: Speaking with Les Paul... was so down-to-earth and comfortable... like talking to your Grandpa. I am lucky to have had the chance to interview him and listen to jazz history first-hand from Les. Les Paul confirmed that it was not only hip to be a Jazz Musician, but also a Geek, a Tinkerer and an Inventor. He will be sorely missed.

Jansen explores Paul's early career, specifically his impact on Jazz. Les talks about his early days in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. Les tells stories about his relationships with Jazz Legends such as; Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Jo Jones, Earl Hines, Bird, Diz, Art Tatum, Charlie Christian and Nat Cole among many others.

6/25/09 - The Jazz Life Now Digital Only

B.J. Jansen's, "The Jazz Life," show will now only be broadcast via a
digital podcast and stream online. Waning interest in and the
stagnation of terrestrial radio and it's subsequent inability to reach
efficiently the Jazz Life's listeners has prompted this digital only
move by Jansen.

Jansen stated, “The stagnation of terrestrial radio has proved it much
less effective than reaching jazz audiences worldwide directly via an
on-demand format such as through a podcast. I'm now able to provide
the interview content more creatively and efficiently, while
maintaining more time to devote to my new recording project."
NEW CD Review! Limited Edition Valentine's Day Album Gets First Review...

RE: "B.J. Jansen & Frank Stagnitta: Ballads: Reflections of a New World"

WHAT:

"B. J. Jansen & Frank Stagnitta - Ballads: Reflections of a New World
– JansenMusic - 2009

This time out, B. J. is at ease playing the entire range of the
baritone sax. On "Ballads: Reflections of a New World", B. J. and
pianist Frank Stagnitta tackle
compositions written by Ellington, Coltrane, Tadd Dameron, himself and
others. These two accomplished musicians use a rather crafty approach
as they combine the attractive but relaxing aural effects of Baritone
sax paired with the Fender Rhoads…interesting. This approach tends to
even out the inherent power of the barisax making for a romantic
sensual voyage of Ballads." Ty Bailey - Jazz Radio Host on WVST-FM
